During her undergraduate studies in architecture, she explored traditional Indian architecture and how the culture assimilates the built and open spaces in its everyday life.
Her curiosity in landscape design at an urban scale was boosted during her graduate studies in urban design while working on projects that sensitively responded to unique local conditions.
At the University of Maryland, Avantika built upon knowledge and skills gained in India to understand and design landscapes in the United States. Her thesis focused on designing neighborhoods for active living. Her study identified issues with car-centric built environment and its effects on the physical and mental health. The project aimed to create a green and active neighborhood that helps the community move away from sedentary lifestyles to improve the physical health and wellbeing. Avantika is passionate about designing landscapes that connect people with nature.
